Arncliffe Sports & Community Centre

The Arncliffe Centre.  (Telephone number 0151 428 1929)

The Arncliffe Centre enjoys an excellent reputation as a friendly Centre!

On many occasions we find people who comment that they didn’t even know that the Arncliffe Centre existed, but they are always keen to come back again to either one of the many events, or to hire it for their own function. If you want to celebrate christenings, children’s parties, 18th and 21st Birthday Parties, wedding receptions etc, you will find that the Arncliffe Centre is an ideal venue. You can have full use of our kitchen, so as to allow you to provide your own catering for the event. There is a well-stocked bar at competitive prices, and we are immensely proud of the feedback we have had from satisfied clients.

Ideal for day-time functions (weather permitting), there is a huge garden and park area at the back of the building. This area is also open all week throughout the summer for the use of the community. It has picnic tables, benches and swings, and is fenced to provide a secure environment, whilst being maintained to a high standard. There is a second outside playground at the front of the building, as well a hard play area, two synthetic play pitches and grassed junior sized pitches used by the Halewood Junior Football League. The hard play area is also floodlit, allowing the activities to take place in the winter months, with the whole site being monitored by a CCTV system.

We now have an additional sports hall for hire which can be used for dance, drama and martial arts and has a special floor laid for these sort of activities.

The Centre is normally open from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday. This allows the hiring over the weekend for private functions. The function room does have availability throughout the day when it can be used to hold meetings and regular centre users are always ready to accommodate special hire requests.

Councillors Surgeries are held twice a month on Thursdays from 18:00 until 19:00.

Mrs Veronica Furlong, Centre Manager.

The Barclays for Sport/Football Foundation Project- A History

Following a detailed application from “Everton in the Community” and Knowsley Borough Council, the Arncliffe site was chosen for part of the £30 million Barclays Spaces for Sport initiative to create sustainable sports facilities across the UK and has benefited from an extension to the community centre, the provision of additional changing facilities, improvements to the multi games area in the shape of synthetic surfaces, as well as the upgrading of the drainage for the grass football pitches. A grant of £600,000 from Barclays and the Football Foundation made the significant contribution towards the cost of the project, with Knowsley Met Borough Council, and Halewood Town Council contributing a further £150,000 each to make the project a reality, and which officially opened on 16 October 2007..

The Halewood Junior Soccer League and the Halewood Town Sports Association now has a headquarters in the new extension, and the League will see the Arncliffe and the grassed playing areas become its home.

The Town Council are responsible for the running of the new and upgraded facilities, and five year budget plan, and a usage and charging policy have been agreed. The Annexe Hall is available to hire seven days a week, with the normal rate per hour being applied. The synthetic surfaces, (which have floodlights), are available to hire at very competitive rates, which include a reduced fee for proven Halewood groups or residents. Any income from this hire will help maintain the facilities and the running costs associated with the facilities.

Some of the Halewood Town Council staff pictured with David Moyes the Everton Manager, at the official opening of the new facilities at the Arncliffe Centre on 16 October 2007, (some even put their footballing allegiance aside for the picture !).

The usage programmes were devised to take account of “term-time”, and “holiday time” use. The synthetic surfaces have been made available for the following use, although if no “free users” are booked, then the surfaces will of course be available for group/club hire:
