Elected Members of the Town Council were able to accept an invitation to view the progress on the new shopping centre as it was being built, on Monday 23 January 2012. It is hoped that another visit can be arranged as the work progresses towards completion.

Prior to the commencement of the Town Council meeting on 19 January 2012, Ben Atkins took the opportunity to visit the Town Council to say thank you for the grant of £500 which the Town Council awarded towards the overall cost of him entering the World Age Trampolining Championships representing Great Britain. December 2011

Celebrating nearly thirty years of an RLPO concert in Halewood, Halewood Town Council, Knowsley Borough Council and the Centre for Learning pulled out all the stops to help put on a performance to remember on Thursday 15 December. For the first time ever, all Halewood Primary Schools supplied members of the choir, as did the Centre for Learning, as well as the first ever performance of the Halewood Community Choir, who sang "Jingle Bells". Everyone involved with the event should be proud of the concert that they contributed to. Below are just a few of the photographs from the evening.

Funded by the Town Council, pupils from the Halewood Centre for Learning put on two excellent performances on 13th and 14th December of "Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs". Pictured below with the cast after the performance on the Tuesday evening are, Cllr Gary See, (Deputy Mayor of Halewood), Cllr Edna Finneran, Cllr Peter Corkill, and Cllr Tina Harris.

On the 8th December 2011, the Town Council hosted its traditional Pensioners Party at the Arncliffe Centre. Local residents enjoyed a meal, and entertainment plus being served by staff and councillors alike. Pictured below are some of the residents and councillors including Cllr Gary See (Deputy Mayor of Halewood), Cllr Ken Dalton, Cllr Marj Grant and Cllr Norman Hogg, plus (of course) Father Christmas.

It has now become tradition to accept an invitation from our good friends in Ballinasloe, Ireland for a representative of the Town Council to attend their annual Three Fairs Event as their guest. This year, Cllr Gary See, Deputy Mayor of Halewood, accepted the invitation to visit. This has built on the tremendous friendship shown between the two Townships as a result of the "Bob Paisley Friendship Cup" which has been competed for between Ballinasloe Town AFC and Halewood Town Sports Association for the past 15 years. The first picture is of the "Three Fairs" Group, whilst the second photograph is of the Mayor of Ballinasloe, and Deputy Mayor of Halewood exchanging gifts.

A busy month for the Town Council and on Thursday 7th July 2011, the "Big Tea Party" took place at the Arncliffe Centre in aid of the Marie Curie Cancer Appeal. Over £400 was raised for this worthy cause. Below are some pictures of the local residents enjoying themselves who attended the day.

June 2011

Following on from last years successful inaugural match, Hollies Fields played host again on Saturday 18 June 2011, to a memorial match between Halewood Town FC and The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment. Corporal Simon Hornby was from Halewood, and was sadly killed in Afghanistan in December 2009. Last year, the Town Council donated a new trophy, "The Simon Hornby Memorial Trophy" to be played for each year.

Once again many members of the regiment travelled from Catterick and in some cases Cyprus to play in the game, (including many of whom had served with Simon). The rain held off until after the presentations, which were made by Cllr Bob Swann, Mayor of Halewood. The game was organised by Simon's father, Joe, (who is pictured below with some of the elected members who attended the game).

The game ended in a 2-2 draw, after the regiment had taken an early 2-0 lead, so it were honours even at the end, but more importantly gave all concerned a chance to honour the memory of one of Halewood's own sons who gave the ultimate sacrifice serving his country.

The Youth in the Community Centre in Lichfield Road, (on the Torrington Estate), is celebrating the completion of a new playground on what was wasteland. This has been made possible by the utilisation of a substantial sum from the Town Council's Specific Reserves, and also assisted by a grant of £20,000 from Knowsley Met. Borough Council. The playground can be used both when the Centre is open or closed, and has a seated area, a tarmac surface, as well as a toddler playground. Pictured below are two photographs of the completed playground which the Town Council are certain will be put to good use, and welcomed by the Community. The Youth in The Community Centre will be responsible for the maintenance of the playground, and for the opening and closing of the facility.
